Can I put wood pellets directly into wood burning stove?

Posted by Filed Under Wood Camping Stove with 3 Comments

I know there is a wood pellet basket to use in wood stoves, but it doesn’t fit in my stove. Also the cast iron victorian fire baskets are nice but pricey.
Can I just make a pile in the bottom of the wood stove or would the amount of heat produced melt the metal?

How safe is a wood burning stove/furnace?

Posted by Filed Under Wood Camping Stove with 8 Comments

My husband wants to buy a wood burning stove to heat our home in the winter time because of the cost of propane. He will have it installed in the basement (concrete floors) and he said the radiant heat will flow upwards and heat the entire house. My fear is that our house has tongue and groove knotty pine throughout 75 % of the upstair’s ceilings and walls. The knotty pine has been stripped and varnished with polyurathane from when the house was first purchased around 9 years ago. My fear is that the wood stove could catch the knotty pine on fire. He thinks I’m being silly, but I’m just trying to be cautious. What are the pros and cons of a wood burning stove for heat?

What is the cheapest and least energy consuming device or method to heat a room or tent?

Posted by Filed Under Wood Camping Stove with 6 Comments

One thing I dont understand is there are a gazillion ways to produce heat yet heat is still very expensive. Heat can be produced from solar, electricity, fire, oil, gas, geothermal, friction, movement, crystal, radiation, bacteria, pressure, and even uranium! And that doesnt include the many ways we have of trapping, and transfering heat. Is it really that hard to find a cheap form of heating? I just wanted to point that out. Now on with the question …

I notice most portable heaters consume 750 watts low setting, 1500+ watts for a higher setting. This is very energy consuming. ARE THERE ANY DEVICES OUT THERE THAT CAN HEAT A ROOM USING 100 WATTS OF ELECTRICITY? If an element is capable of giving off free heat, why cant we find the next "hottest" thing?

Its the 21st century and it seems we’re paying more than what they used for heating thousands of years ago. Wood was free back then. Oil, gas, and electricity is not. Without using oil and gas which burning any garbage will give you the same output, where are we with electrical heating? IS 1000 WATTS THE BEST WE HAVE DONE IN HEATING A SIMPLE ROOM? Any other alternatives out there? Like a portable wood stove? I suppose this question should be in regards to camping. What is the best way to heat a tent for example? Could you light a fire outside and have a fan blow in the heat? Or how about a portable wood stove? If theres an electric heater that can be powered using solar panels, then thats what I would like to find out. Thanks guys ===

Does anyone own a hunting cabin/shack near Rio medina Texas?

Posted by Filed Under Wood Camping Stove with 3 Comments

I am trying to locate an small hunting shack/cabin in the woods somewhere near Rio Medina, TX. I know it has a tin roof, and I think that there are 3 sheets of tin — 2 are older and rustier than the 3rd one, so I think it was replaced recently — a little kitchen-type area with a pump for water at the sink and a camp stove, is in a wooded area that has some river that borders the woods on the east and north, has a pretty large deer head hanging on the wall, a wood stove for heat, and at least one cot with Army blankets. I need to find this place — anybody out there know of it?
